Poultry

Omnicide™ is one of the most powerful broad-spectrum disinfectants in the world for continued use through the poultry sector. It can be used in all areas in the broiler, layer, turkey, duck, game and hatchery sectors.

All disinfectants are at their most effectiveness on a clean dry surface. The aim in all biosecurity programmes is to reduce the microbial loading significantly before the application of a disinfectant.

All farms and hatcheries have individual needs and challenges. Please consult your local distributor or Mirius direct for biosecurity programmes and the use of Omnicide™ on your own farm

Broiler – Remove all organic matter and dead birds away from the site in covered transportation. Remove all dust and lose material. Then thoroughly clean the building using Omniclean™ followed by washing with water at high pressure.

Once surfaces are clean and dry apply Omnicide™ at low pressure to all surfaces and allow to dry. Apply at a dilution of 1:125

For earth floors or porous surfaces apply at a dilution of 1:50. Ensuring all surfaces are dry before application.

Drinker lines – Drain drinking system out and refill with a dilution of Omnicide™ at 1.150. Allow to stand for 3 hours and drain the system. Flush with clean water before uses.

Foot baths – Use an appropriate covered foot bath and add correct dilution of Omnicide™ at 1:100. Ensure all foot ware is properly cleaned to remove all organic matter before use. Keep records of when solution is replaced and change 2-3 times a week

Vehicle sprays and wheel dips – Omnicide™ can safely used in all vehicle sprayers and wheel dips as it is non -corrosive in dilution. Dilute at 1:125 and apply evenly over all the vehicle on arrival. In wheel dips dilute to 1:125 and replace every 2-3 days or after environmental dilution or excessive organic loading.

Fumigation – Omnicide™ can be effectively used as both a cold or thermal fog. This gives the added protection to areas where the washing and disinfection may not have reached thoroughly and gives added protection due to the residual action of Omnicide™

Cold fog – at 1:9 dilution and apply using 9 litres of diluted product per 1,000m² of floor area.

Thermal fog at 1:4 dilution apply using 9 litres of diluted product per 1,000m³ of house volume.

Cool pads – The importance of cleaning and disinfecting the cool pad system can-not be under estimated. The water system can build up biofilm and the pads can become blocked and harbour disease.

It is recommended to thoroughly clean the system at the end of each batch and on a quarterly basis in laying houses.

  • Completely empty the sump of water and silt
  • Refill the sump with clean water and Omnicide™ at a dilution 200ml per 1,000 l water
  • Turn off the ventilation fans, if possible
  • Manually turn pumps on to run the Omnicide dilution over the pads for 24hours
  • Open the ends of the water distribution pipes to flush out debris; replace the covers
  • Remove the plug and drain the system for silt collection
  • Gently hose deposits from the face of the pads (do not use a power washer)
  • Completely empty the sump to remove the algae and dirt rinsed off the pads
  • Disinfect the system with Omnicide™ diluted at 100ml per 1,000 litres
  • Check to make sure the bleed-off is working properly
  • Refill with clean water

Breeders – Good and effective bio-security is essential on all breeder farms. From the entrance to the farm to the eggs leaving. All personnel should have restricted access to the farm and be subjected to bio-security measures.

Operate a shower in and shower out policy. Ensuring the showers run for at least 4 mins. Using an antimicrobial shampoo and body wash.  Site specific clothing. Regularly washed and disinfected. Hand sanitizers at every point and after handling birds before handling eggs.

Foot baths – The use of a good effective foot bath is essential. Ensure the correct dilution is made 1:100. Ensure the foot bath is covered to protect from the environment. Make sure all foot ware is clean and free of organic matter before using the foot bath.

Nest pads – As the first area of contact to a fertile egg the nest pad needs special attention. Always ensure the nest material or pad is free from organic matter and replaced and disinfected regularly with Omnicide™

Apply Omnicide™ to the clean nest material (shavings, rice hulls etc) at a dilution of 1:100 at least once a week.

For nest pads always have several clean pads available. Replace at least a third of the house once a week with a clean disinfected mat.

The nest mats should be thoroughly cleaned with Omniclean™ at a dilution of 1:160 or soaked in a bath for 24 hours with Omniclean at a dilution of 1:100. The mats should then be washed and allowed to dry.

When dry apply Omnicide™ at a dilution of 1:125 to the whole mat and allow to dry.

Egg belts – Egg belts should be routinely cleaned once a week or when dirty. Omnicide™ can be applied using a clean cloth to wipe the belt in a dilution of 1:125. Alternatively, it can be sprayed using a hand sprayer od Knapsack sprayer to the clean belt once a week at a dilution of 1:125

Also ensure hand sanitizers are used regularly by all staff operating the egg collection from the belts or direct from the nest.

Egg rooms – Should be cleaned and disinfected at the end of each day. After sweeping and removing any organic matter. Clean using Omniclean™ When surfaces are dry apply Omnicide™ at a dilution of 1:125 at low pressure to all surfaces and collecting tables

Hatching eggs – Omnicide™ can be successfully used for the sterilization of fertile hatching eggs and is a safe alternative to formaldehyde

Omnicide™ can be used as a dipping solution for eggs. Dilute at 1:30 and temperature of solution should be 38-40⁰c. Dip eggs in solution for 3 mins. Remove and allow to dry in a ventilated area.

Omnicide™ can be used for wet misting of the eggs using a solution diluted to 1:10 spray into egg room for 20 mins allowing the vapour to fully circulate and reach all eggs. Ventilate and allow to dry for 20 mins

Ultrasonic fogging – Omnicide™ can be successfully used in appropriate ultrasonic foggers. Such as the drysan machine. It will create a dry fog. Dilute Omnicide at 1:10 or 1:20 depending on room and circulation. For 20 mins and allow good circulation. Ventilate for 20 mins and move eggs to the cold egg storage room. Omnicide™ does not need the addition of a fog enhancer. But propylene glycol can be added at 5% to increase the visibility if required
